WHAT?! Christmas is almost here already?? Where on earth did the time go?? It seems I have been somewhat lazy as my last post was back in October! Perhaps I’ve been busy? Nah, most likely unmotivated. Here is a rundown of what I’ve been up to.
Ragnarok LAN
Well this is going back a while now, but a group of us got together for a weekend of pure Ragnarok! Lots of fun!! (though very fattening – it seems there is just no possible way of separating pizza, coke and snacks from a LAN party). There was a total of 7 of us playing both locally and distant, and we all had a good time! The thing I love about ragnarok is that it is easy to play, has cute characters, and is more about social interaction than being glued to the screen. Essentially it was pretty much just a weekend of friends sitting around a central table of computers having a good laugh. Can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend ^_^
Christmas Chaos
Well, being December and all, I’m doing the usual frantic scramble to get gifts, shopping, cooking and house work out of the way in the lead up to Christmas. Fortunately, I managed to do all my Christmas shopping online and so far just about everything has arrived on time. I find Christmas to be such a stressful time of the year. It is so commercialised now and there is such a high pressure to spend money. Christmas no longer seems to hold that special feeling of fellowship and thanksgiving like it used to. Heck, its not even referred to as Christmas anymore. Now the term used is ‘Holiday Season.’ I find it sad that a christian holiday has been altered to make it more ‘user friendly’ to people who don’t share the christian faith. A friend of mine who was doing pre-school teaching was told she wasn’t even allowed to mention the nativity story to pre-schoolers! The nativity story is one of the most beautiful stories in the bible. Is it really that offensive that it cannot be shared with people, even if they don’t believe it to be true? I just find it so sad.
Anyway enough ranting. This year Eastonroyce and I are heading to Coffs Harbour to spend Christmas with his family and friends. By the sounds of it, its going to be a pretty big gathering – nothing like the small family get together I’m now accustomed too! We are taking two weeks holiday which I am really looking forwarded to. I can’t wait to just spend some time just chilling out and playing games. Plus, we are taking Quin with us! So it should be a lot of fun! We are going on Saturday, so the next few days will involve lots of cooking, a work Christmas lunch and lots of packing and ironing. Oh joy!
One Night With the King
Last night I went to the movies and saw One Night with the King – a movie based on the biblical story of Esther. I very much enjoyed it! Esther had the most beautiful dresses. I wish it was normal for people to dress up daily! I would love to wear beautiful dresses like that. Because the movie is only showing here for one week, the churches around town have been promoting it, as very little had been heard about it otherwise. I haven’t actually read the whole book of Esther in the bible, so I found the story a little difficult to follow. Mum gave me a quick rundown at the end of the movie which cleared things up for me. I will make it a priority to read it myself though. It should be interesting an interesting read! I have an archealogical study bible, so it has lots of interesting facts and extracts which really enhances the texts. I really should use it more often than I do ^_^’
Other Random Stuff
Recently Eastonroyce joined the local Apex club and last night they had the first of two Santa runs. This is where they drive around town on the back of a truck dressed as Santa shouting ‘Ho Ho Ho’ over a loud speaker and throw lollies at kids. Guess who got to dress up as Santa?! Unfortunately, I wan’t around so I didn’t get to see! This is probably the first time of many that Eastonroyce gets to play a jolly fat man in a red suit ^_^
Bleak House – I highly recommend watching this series! The screenplay is from the same person behind the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice (my most favourite mini-series) and the series is exceptional! Eastonroyce and I watched the entire series in two days because it was just so addictive! The characters were wonderful, the acting superb and the story progressed at an excellent pace. Based on the Charles Dickens novel by the same name (which I haven’t read, but it is free to read online) this is a show I highly encourage everyone to watch! So go! Shoo! Go get it and watch it right now!!
