Wii Fit~You are now on Day 33 of your training~

“Good morning, Chrnocat! How did you sleep last night? Are you ready for today’s fitness test?”

Ok, I admit it. I was one of the million or so people who got Wii Fit for Christmas (amongst many other ultra-cool things) and I have to say, I am totally addicted! Could there be a more innovative game?? I think not!

Right from the moment I created my profile I was impressed. The sensors in the Wii Fit Board are amazing. Apparantly I lean slightly to the right when I stand, but nothing the Wii Fit balance training can’t fix. It also has built in scales to determine weight, and can calculate my recommended BMI based on my age and height! Wow! According to Wii Fit I’m in my Optimal Weight range (yay!) and could lose 3kg to be at the best possible BMI for my stats. I set a deadline of 3 months to lose the weight and got to work on my training…

…and promptly put on another 3 kilos!!! Aaagggghhhh!!! :’(

The little Wii Fit board looked sorry for me too:

“Now, give a reason for your weight gain”

  1. I ate too much
  2. I snacked too much
  3. Indigestion
  4. Don’t know

Truthfully, I know it was a combination of Christmas and post-Christmas overeating and unhealthy snacking. But I also think I’ve gained some muscle too. Little Wii Fit board didn’t think of that!

But never fear! Little Wii Board is quick to remind me that my last weigh in was at 8:08am and today I’m weighing myself at 7:34pm, and that weight can change +or-1.5kg throughout the course of a day! Better to weigh myself at the same time each day.

The training activities are undeniably fun. There are 4 different categories Yoga, Muscle, Aerobics and Balance. At first I was skeptical, not being the most flexible person in the world I was reluctant to try the Yoga (Yoga? Bleh!). But even I am rolling around on the floor or standing on one foot with my arms above my head. Sure, my form probably isn’t as ‘beautiful’ as it could be, but my balance is improving and I’m having a heck of a lot of fun doing it!

The muscle workouts are quite challenging. After struggling through a bunch of lunges and pushups, the friendly trainer happily points at that “phew, that was a tough workout!” I retaliate by waving my fist yelling “Yeah, No kidding?!!” while struggling to catch breath on the floor.

My favourite activities are the aerobics exercises, especially the Advanced Step class and the Rhythm boxing. Hula hoop is lots of fun too (but 10 minutes?!!! Come on!!!). I’m also happy to jog on the spot for 18 minutes while I do a lap of the island in the one player jogging. The two player jogging is fun, as long as you aren’t jogging with someone like Eastonroyce, who has discovered standing on the spot and viciously shaking the controller will give a better score than actually jogging.

The balance games are more like party games, and are lots of fun to play with a group of people. Ski down slopes, walk tightropes and table-tilt balls through a series of challenges and move your way to better balance. Heading is hilarious – repel soccor balls with your head while avoiding flying soccor boots and panda heads. The *THWAK* you get when something clonks you in the head is hilarious! (And Yeah James! I finally beat your Advanced Soccor Heading score. YEAH!!!!)

Yesterday my fit pig got upgraded to a Gold (or is it bronze?) version after clocking up 10 hours of play. Wii Fit is so much fun and motivating! I feel the guilt when the little Wii Fit board asks “Were you busy yesterday, Chrnocat?” in response to my missing a day of Wii Fitness.

Honestly, I can’t stop raving about this game and I swear I have convinced heaps of people to go out and buy it. I take my health and fitness pretty seriously and I just love the challenges and the variations I can make to my daily routine! Add that to swimming and walking the dogs and I’ve got a pretty good little fitness regime going on.

If only I was losing weight instead of gaining it!! Oh well, at least I’m having fun ^_^
